About Us
A friend works with her cousin. They decide to introduce us. We both say, "Not interested".
They compare our responses, wants, and explanations, finding them to be almost identical.
My friend strongly suggests that I reconsider. I see some obvious problems: U.S.A.-Cambodia, English-Khmer. The cousin offers to translate if I decide to write to her. After two months I do. Upon reading what I have written, I believe, I have done "everything" wrong and will never hear from her. I am amazed when she writes back.
Soon we are writing constantly, learning each other's language and, I start calling her twice a week.
She never asks for anything except letters and pictures. Then after more than a year she invites me to Phnom Penh for the Cambodian New Year. She is amazed when I accept.
